Dear Professor Lapping

Thank you for ringing from Gascony. It was a bit difficult to hear what you were saying. There was a French person who kept interrupting to ask for more euros.

Is your e-mail working yet? When you came back from Dixon's with that French phone adapter before you left, you said that there would be no problems. What's happened?

If this e-mail does get through could you reply a.s.a.p? There are a few minor problems which need some sorting. Colin Woolbridge (tall, red hair, rugger team) is taking us to court because he only got a lower second (his supervisor was Doctor Piercemuller to whom I've copied this e-mail).

There's also a problem with Jennifer Crompton's PhD thesis. She was copying it yesterday afternoon when the photocopier got into a vicious mood and chewed up her Chapter Six. Can she have an extension? There's also a letter to you from the Vice-Chancellor which was sent Recorded Delivery and marked Personal. Do you think he might want a quick reply?

From what I could hear on the 'phone, Gascony sounds lovely. Don't overdo it on the duck's liver or whatever it is they call it over there

:) Maureen

Dear Professor Lapping

Hello. I'm Colin Woolbridge, one of your former students. I don't know whether you remember me (tall, red hair, rugger team) but I just wanted to write and say that I'll be seeing you in court
