UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE. Janet Sprent, head of the department of biological sciences and a member of the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, has been appointed deputy principal.

Martin Harris, vice chancellor of Manchester University, has been appointed chairman of the Centre for Information on Language Teaching for a third term.

Tom Franks, development and project planning centre at the University of Bradford, has been elected vice chairman of the British section of the International Commission for Irrigation and Drainage.

David Marquand, founder of the political economy research centre at Sheffield, has been elected principal of Mansfield College.

Eileen Martin, principal of the Lancashire College of Nursing and Health Studies, has been appointed dean designate of the university's new faculty of health.
