GOLDSMITHS COLLEGE

UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

Barry Quinn, previously principal research scientist with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, Australia and senior lecturer in statistics, Newcastle University, New South Wales, has been appointed to the chair in mathematics.

The following have also been promoted to professorships: Peter Aggleton, reader, to a personal chair in education; Ivor Gaber, senior lecturer, personal chair in broadcast journalism; Michael Musgrave, reader, personal chair in music.

UNIVERSITY OF ST ANDREWS

Robert Cywinski, former lecturer at the J. J. Thompson physical laboratory at Reading University, has been appointed professor of magnetism; Keith Horne, former associate astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, has been appointed professor of astronomy.

UNIVERSITY OF LUTON

The following professorships have been awarded: Tony Cline, former head of the school of psychology, professor of educational psychology; Tony Canavan, former principal research fellow, professor of clinical psychology; David Berridge, previously reader in applied social studies, professor of child and family welfare.
