UNIVERSITY OF LUTON

Trevor Kletz, a visiting fellow in the chemical engineering department, has been named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

INSTITUTION OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS

Honorary fellowships: Bryce McCirrick, for services to engineering aspects of broadcasting and many contributions to the institution; Gordon Slemon, for his leadership in the field of education in Canada and his authority on the analysis, design and development of electrical machines and controlled drive systems; David Rhodes, for his scientific contributions in the fields of circuit theory and microwave filters and business developments in the manufacture of components for communications and military systems.

ROYAL INSTITUTION OF GREAT BRITAIN

Helen Sharman, the British astronaut, is joining the institution as a visiting fellow. Her role is to encourage greater public understanding of science, especially chemistry and chemical processes.
