MA: Doris Fiedor, chair of the Hartcliffe Community Council and member of the British Community Health Council, was awarded an honorary degree on February 3.

DBA: Gordon Baxter, president of W. A. Baxter and Sons Ltd; Stephen Ho, founder and managing director of the Cho Yang (Hong Kong) Shipping Company Ltd.

D.Litt: Magnus Magnusson, presenter of Mastermind and chairman of Scottish Natural Heritage.

UNIVERSITY OF SURREY

Zenon Jagodzinski, scientists; Peter Bonfield, chairman and chief executive of ICL; Anthony Kelly, who was vice chancellor of the University for 20 years; Alan Rudge, managing director of development and procurement at British Telecom; Charles Sandbank, former deputy director of engineering at the BBC; Bryan Hildrew, managing director of the Lloyds Register of Shipping.

UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING

Honorary degrees were conferred on the following on February 25: John Forty, principal of the University (1986-94); Lindsay Corbett, editor and secretary of the Forth Naturalist and Historian; David Phillips, molecular biophysicist; Barbara Young, chief executive of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
