I was astounded to learn that the University of Michigan has been ¡°terrorised¡± by a turkey (The week in higher education, 6 August). One wonders why the faculty didn¡¯t come out performing the ¡°turkey trot¡±, a provocative dance that, according to Andrew F. Smith in The Turkey: An American Story (2006), ¡°originated in Montana in the 1900s¡± and became the ¡°in¡± dance. The turkey would then have imprinted itself behind the faculty and followed them wherever they wished to go.
