(Photograph) - Aberdeen University is considering a plan by Scandic Hotels to turn part of its city centre Marischal College into a 194-bedroom hotel. In recent years, academic and administrative work has shifted from Marischal, the second- largest granite building in the world, after the Escorial, near Madrid, to the university's main campus and medical school. Maxwell Irvine, Aberdeen's principal, said that the university would continue to own the building, and said the planning application did not include the historic Mitchell Hall picture gallery and award-winning anthropological museum.
