Details of the 1993 shake-up of the research councils prompted by the science White Paper of that year appear to be taking some time to filter through to our friends on the continent.

In a report for the European Parliament's science policy advisory group, STOA, academics from the University of Limburg, Netherlands, state that from 1994 "there will be eight active research councils" (there are six).

The mistake results from their not having taken into account that fact that two of the councils have been renamed rather than added. Phew. For a moment Antithesis was worried it had got it wrong all this time. And no one had noticed !
