University of Leeds

Os Finnie, finance director of a company within the Blackwell publishing group, general manager of finance; Jim Parry, dean for student support from August 1, 1998: Robert Sladdin, director of estates development, has been appointed director of estates from August 1, chairing four divisions and a new estates board; Jan Wilkinson, deputy librarian at LSE's British Library of Political and Economic Science, has been appointed director of strategic development (library); Lynne Brindley, university librarian and dean of information strategy, has been appointed pro vice-chancellor for communications and information; David Sugden, chair of the school of education will become pro vice-chancellor for staff; Chris Taylor, currently pro vice-chancellor for IT and facilities, will take responsibility for teaching and learning for the period to July 2000.

University of Southampton

Bill Harris, assistant director of physical education and sport at the University of Hong Kong, has been appointed director of sport and physical recreation; Tony Strike, former human resource director at Portsmouth Hospital NHS Trust, has been appointed director of human resources.

University of Aberdeen

Steve Cannon, director of finance and strategic corporate affairs at the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, has been appointed secretary of the university.

Bolton Institute

Mollie Temple, pro vice-chancellor at the University of Sunderland, will succeed Bob Oxtoby as principal and chief executive of the institute on January 1, 1999.

Institution of Electrical Engineers

Philip Secker, professor, has been appointed acting secretary; Mike Rodd will be deputy secretary with responsibility for the learned society's activities; Les Goldstone, director of public affairs, has been promoted to deputy secretary, with responsibility for the qualifications, public affairs, industrial affiliates and technical regulations departments.

Natural History Museum, London

Teresa Wild, formerly at Newham Museum Service, has been appointed director of the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum.
