Research councils are proposing to meet the costs associated with maternity leave for contract researchers according to a consultation document to be issued to institutions by the research councils and the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals.. The proposal is one of the key recommendation in the document which aims to help improve the career development of contract researchers funded by the councils or the Royal Society. A central feature of the recommendations is that all universities should set up high quality career advice and management structures for such staff.
