Birmingham and Aston join institutional forces

The Universities of Aston and Birmingham have embarked on what has been described as an institutional collaboration. The move comes as a response to the government's request that universities co-operate within regions. Aiming to work together on a non-competitive basis, they plan to pool resources and share equipment where it will benefit both. The universities scotched speculation that the union would eventually lead to a merger.
