Paisley University's annual Burns Lunch was its usual outstanding success last week, even though some of those due to perform were absent because of flu. Indeed, Sam Monaghan, associate head of mechanical and manufacturing engineering, had to take to the stage alone to perform what was described in the programme as "A Sang (Duet)".
University secretary James Fraser said it was a tribute to the success with which the engineering departments were coping with efficiency savings that duets which previously required two persons to sing them were now successfully, and without detriment to quality, able to be delivered by one.
