University and college lecturers are calling for the appointment of a Visitor in every higher education institution to ensure that allegations of institutional abuse can be investigated independently.
The Association of University and College Lecturers says the Visitor should be responsible to the Privy Council and have similar powers to those traditionally held by Visitors in the old universities. The union has also reiterated its call for a higher education ombudsman with a similar responsibility to the Privy Council and with wide powers of investigation and redress.
