David Richardson appointed as new UEA v-c

<ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ class="standfirst">David Richardson is to become vice-chancellor of the University of East Anglia when present incumbent Edward Acton retires in September

Professor Richardson is currently deputy vice-chancellor at the Norfolk university, as well as a professor of bacterial biochemistry.

Since joining UEA in 1991 as a lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences, he has been associate dean and dean of the faculty of science, before being made pro-vice-chancellor for research, enterprise and engagement in 2011. He became deputy vice-chancellor in August 2012.

¡°I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed as UEA¡¯s next vice-chancellor,¡± Professor Richardson said.

¡°UEA has played an important part in my working life and I am determined to take it from strength to strength.¡±

In addition to his university roles, Professor Richardson is a member of the governing councils of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and of the Norwich Research Park.

Richard Jewson, chair of UEA¡¯s council, said: ¡°I am confident that David¡¯s outstanding leadership qualities and research experience will make him an excellent successor to Edward Acton.
