We can think of lots of reasons why one might want to be critical of Brian Mawhinney, the abrasive chairman of the Conservative Party, but a recent assertion in the Daily Mail that "he insists on being called doctor, though his title relates only to a PhD in radiation biology" is not among them. So much for the positive image of higher academic qualifications.
