* The longest all-out strike at a further education college ended this week in a local agreement between Natfhe and Bolton college. The seven-week dispute was resolved in a last-minute agreement before the start of term.

It gives lecturers an interim 4.63 per cent pay rise and keeps silver book terms on holiday, redundancy and the working week. Annual teaching hours are limited to 810.

John Akker, Natfhe general secretary, said: "They have achieved an acceptable deal which covers all lecturers at the college and provides a far better contract than the CEF model."
