End of an era at the Open University, with the passing of the final cohort of students on the Personality, development and learning option in the school of education.

With no mention of Hans Eysenck in the replacement Child development course, Peter Barnes's collection of student misspellings of his name concludes with 37 entries - of which Exyserick and Esysneck are perhaps widest of the mark, Eysank the most phonetic and Eyesneck the most frankly anatomical. Students on this course have also been the most consistent contributors to the annual THES howler competition (closing date this year 28 July, but please get entries in asap). Dr Barnes is, however, confident that the new course will be similarly productive.
