Honorary fellowships have been awarded to: Keith Allen, actor; Roy Bohana, music director of the Arts Council for Wales to 1997; Julian Bream, lutenist; Rebecca Evans, opera singer; Gareth Gwenlan, producer-director and head of comedy at the BBC (1983-89); Peter Karrie, performer in contemporary musical theatre; John Ogwen, actor; Carlo Rizzi, conductor and musical director of the Welsh National Opera; Sionied Williams, harpist.

University of the West of England

Edward Carroll, who retired from the post of acting director of Bristol Polytechnic in 1985, will be admitted to honorary fellowship for his contribution to the life and work of the university.

Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine

On May the following were formally admitted to fellowship of the college: Stuart Lipton, chief executive of Stanhope plc and governor of Imperial College; David Potter, founder, chairman and chief executive of Psion plc; Evelyn de Rothschild, chairman of N. M. Rothschild & Sons Ltd, governor of the college since 1988 and former chairman of the delegacy of St Mary's Hospital Medical School (1977-88).

The following will be admitted on October 28: John Archer, principal and vice-chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, former pro-rector and deputy rector of the college (1991-96) and dean of the Royal School of Mines (1989-91); Nay Htun, United Nations assistant secretary-general, assistant administrator and regional director for Asia and Pacific United Nations Development Programme and visiting professor in the department of earth resources engineering; John Stuart, emeritus professor and senior research fellow, former head of department of mathematics (1974-79 and 1983-86) and dean of the Royal College of Science (1990-93).
