Four out of 15 further education students fail to attend their lessons. The non-attendance rate in the median class was revealed by college inspections over two years of 20,000 classes, Sir William Stubbs, chief executive of the Further Education Funding Council, told the Association of Principals of Colleges conference in Newcastle. The inspections also showed that the strengths of the lessons outweighed the weaknesses in only 59 per cent of cases.
