Dr Ng Man-lun, reader in psychiatry at the University of Hong Kong, is urging women on mainland China to take more than one husband as a solution to the shortage of wives, according to a report in the Hong Kong Standard. The paper says Dr Ng believed monogamy is no longer tenable because of the lopsided gender ratio in China, and warns that social problems might arise through attempts to suppress male sexual desires. "In the end, society suffers because men cannot perform their job well if their sexual needs are not satisfied".
