Hacks on heat

Geographers may have to revise their old assurances that the climate of the west of Scotland is wet and warm. Last week's conference of the Royal Geographical Society-Institute of British Geographers at Strathclyde University demonstrated that this is only half correct. Siberian conditions had led to burst pipes in the conference building so there was no central heating. Only one room was slightly less than Arctic - the press room, since the enterprising hacks had commandeered the one electric radiator which they found in the creche.
