James Simpson, moderator of the general assembly of the Church of Scotland, and author of three joke books, received a founder's day honorary degree at Aberdeen University.
David Fergusson, professor of systematic theology, reminded him of one of his jokes during the laureation address: a visiting bishop speaking at Yale University took its initial letters as his theme, and gave an interminable address on "Youth, Ambition, Loyalty and Energy". As the students left the hall, one remarked: "I'm so glad I chose Yale and not the Massachusetts Institute of Technology."
