As sweltering graduation ceremonies come to their sweaty end across sun-baked Britain, Antithesis hopes to highlight those heart-warming Alumni To Be Proud Of in forthcoming weeks.

Case in point number one: London Guildhall University.

Nothing wrong with its mission statement, which includes the noble aim of "distinctive higher education of a national and international standard which meets the needs of the City of London . . ."

But, as provost Roderick Floud confessed at a recent conference: "There has been a debate about whether we should use the fact that Nick Leeson learned his banking skills at London Guildhall University as a marketing point or keep quiet about it."

Too late.
