Gordon Kirk, principal of Moray House Institute of Education, has attacked "mergermania," saying that it was dangerous to maintain that economies of scale could be achieved by merging smaller units within larger ones, He called for a diverse range of distinctive higher education institutions rather than "identikit" versions, and said that large institutions also have scope for rationalisation.
