In August of this year, University College Salford, whose staff are represented by Natfhe, will merge with the University of Salford, whose academic staff are members of AUT. Although there have been a few minor skirmishes we have reached agreement concerning the merging of pay scales in the new university and are close to resolving differences in conditions of employment. The most contentious issue has been the prescriptive nature of the Natfhe contract, in contrast to the more open-ended terms under which AUT staff work.
