Claire Sanders's article on the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals main committee meeting at which v-cs discussed Higher Education Funding Council for England proposals for the future of quality assurance, suggests that a vote was taken to reject them (THES, June 16). This is not so.
While it is quite true that most of those who spoke were strongly critical of certain aspects of the HEFCE proposals as they stand, the committee decided not to move to a vote on their rejection. The main committee resolved instead to support the position taken by the chairman in his letter to Graeme Davies of April 24, and endorsed by the CVCP council.
The task of responding to the HEFCE paper was remitted to the council. This response will be based not only on the discussion at the main committee, but also on the written submissions that have been invited from CVCP members.
