Chris Humphries , director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce and former chairman of the National Skills Taskforce, has been appointed director-general of awarding body City and Guilds . He will take up the post in April, succeeding Nick Carey.

Warwick Business School has announced the appointment of Ann Jackson , from its Centre of Creativity Strategy and Change, to head its new International and External Relations Office, which aims to support international marketing and student activity.

Also at Warwick , Stephen Hagen, former coordinator of the West Midlands Higher Education Society, has been appointed director of the Mercia Institute of Enterprise, and Malcolm Hoare , former director of vocational education programmes at Durham, becomes regional director in the Centre for Education and Industry.

Stephen Page , former chair of tourism management at Massey University, New Zealand and associate editor of the tourism journal Tourism Management, has joined the University of Stirling as professor of tourism.
