The Reverend Moon's mass production of weddings had its equivalent at the recent American Political Science Association conference at Chicago. Adding to the mildly cattleyard feel implicit in any giant political jamboree was the crowd of young hopefuls there to seek their first postings. A process conducted with care and precision by institutions? Not invariably - one participating college interviewed candidates in groups, and admitted that it had never actually hired anyone this way.
