The nation's journalists are clearly in a ferment over Edinburgh University's support for the city's international science festival, and the role it sees for itself in supporting the local and Scottish economy. After Edinburgh's principal, Stewart Sutherland, had outlined these themes at a lunch for the press, he asked if there were any questions and drew the immediate response: "Yes - can you pass the coffee over here?"
