Delegates at the Educational Institute of Scotland's College Lecturers' Association were bemused when in the middle of one debate, president Elinor McKenzie remarked that it reminded her of the folksong William Brown. She rejected an invitation to sing it, suggesting that delegate Bonnie Dudley Edwards was a better singer.

"I don't know it," confessed Ms Dudley Edwards, adding: "I could do The Sinking of the Titanic."
