The Commission's Information Society and Media DG has published a call for tenders relating to a study of the strategies, policies and other conditions needed to allow the European-based software and services industries to take global platform leadership.
This study should identify circumstances affecting the performance and potential of the European software and services industries. The study will identify probable global technology deployment trends; industrial trends - especially with respect to software production and the support of information-based services - and potential international cooperation.
The study would estimate the need for software production in support of information society services and the capacity of European-based industry to fulfil it. Hence, it will arrive at a strategy for research and development, education and training needs and outsourcing.
