Tanzania¡¯s Higher Education Students¡¯ Loan Board has distributed an additional Tsh9.6 billion (?3.2 million) in loans after thousands of students were left without finance.

Some 2,679 students will benefit from the additional funding, the majority of them first-year students, according to a?.

Abdul-Razaq Badru, managing director of the Higher Education Students¡¯ Loan Board, said that the ¡°boom¡± in funding would go to 1,847 students in their first year and 832 students in other years.

The move comes after the board sent loans for 590 students to the wrong universities and had to recall the funding to redirect it to the correct place. The money was paid to the first choice institution of the affected students, but they later chose to attend a different one.

In total 33,200 students have now received finance for the 2017-18 academic year.
