I would like to make it clear where this union stands in relation to the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. Natfhe has sought the advice and assistance of Acas on numerous occasions and there are currently local disputes in which Acas is providing valuable assistance in finding a solution satisfactory to this union.
Acas was extremely helpful in the process which led to an agreement at Bath Further Education College where a most serious situation was averted. While in relation to the FE contracts dispute, we have made clear that Natfhe does not, at this time, wish to enter into conciliation talks under the auspices of Acas, this does not imply any lessening of the value we place on Acas. This union, however, reserves its right to accept an invitation when it judges the circumstances to be right and not as a result of an approach made by another teachers' organisation.
