Dentists have been urged to check children for signs of neglect after new research showed a correlation between severe oral disease and wider abuse. Peter Sidebotham, from the University of Warwick's medical school, co-authored the paper on child dental neglect, which is believed to be the first of its kind in Europe, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Sheffield and Leeds Dental Institute. The study details the various signs of neglect visible when treating a child and offers guidance on how the dental team should respond.
