Fifty scientists from the Wellcome Foundation, the drug company which merged with Glaxo, are to set up a project at University College London that will eventually cost Glaxo-Wellcome Pounds 10 million.
Scientists from St George's Hospital Medical School and King's College School of Medicine will also move across to the new Institute of Strategic Research, to be housed at the old University College Hospital building, now being refurbished with funds from the Wellcome Trust and the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Salvador Moncada, director of the project, said it would be an academic institute co-ordinating multidisciplinary research in "a strategically focussed way".
