Among the most vigorous participants in the debate over funding options has been Derek Fraser, vice chancellor of Teesside. Possibly in gratitude for his quotability, The Times and The Daily Telegraph decided to elevate him to "Sir Derek". Perhaps in time HM Government will take the hint. In the meantime he notes that "I occasionally get called 'sir' by receptionists and car park attendants. Having it done by two national newspapers is another matter entirely."
