According to Sir David Bell (What are you reading? , 25 January), ¡°Gordon Brown was Britain¡¯s most cerebral modern prime minister¡±. Another contender is surely Harold Wilson, who was both an economist and an applied statistician. Indeed, at receptions if he could flawlessly say ¡°I am a former president of the Royal Statistical Society¡±, he would enjoy another drink.
