Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer, THE said:
¡°After collaborating so fruitfully on hosting an excellent virtual summit with NYU Abu Dhabi during the pandemic, the Times Higher Education team is absolutely thrilled to be joining forces with the NYUAD team again ¨C but this time in-person and on the stunning campus in Abu Dhabi. I have said before that the whole of the Arab world is enjoying a real renaissance in higher education, research and innovation, with the region¡¯s universities surging up the global rankings, and it is clear that real leadership on this is coming from the United Arab Emirates. Indeed, the UAE is the fastest-rising nation in the world for research over the last five years, according to the data behind THE¡¯s World University Rankings and that is thanks to investment, a real policy focus, and of course international collaborations. ?I very much look forward to an event that will bring together university leaders from across the whole region and beyond, and which will seek to harness the great momentum in the Arab world and help drive further rapid progress.
¡°As UAE is host to the United Nations¡¯ COP28 climate change conference in 2023, we will of course be putting a special focus at the summit on universities¡¯ contribution to sustainability ¨C ensuring the universities¡¯ vital role in supporting the COP agenda is front and centre.
¡°Above all, the summit will be about the future ¨C the future of institutions and their research, the future of graduates and their adaptability and the future of the planet and its survival. We are delighted to invite leaders from across the region¡¯s higher education and research, industry and policy leadership community to come and collaborate with us in Abu Dhabi.¡±
NYU Abu Dhabi¡¯s Vice Chancellor Mari?t Westermann, said:
¡°We are thrilled to host the THE MENA Universities Summit 2023 at NYU Abu Dhabi. The summit will feature the announcement of the THE Arab University Rankings 2023 at a gala dinner, followed by an in-depth masterclass from THE¡¯s data team, providing analysis and insight into the key findings, trends and stories from rankings data.
