Study in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in the European Union but don¡¯t let that fool you. There is plenty here to make it a very attractive location for students who wish to study in this fascinating, pocket-sized nation in the heart of Western Europe.
Luxembourg has thick forests in the north, impressive gorges in the east and a fantastic medieval walled city for a capital. Bordered by Germany, France and Belgium, Luxembourg historically served as the meeting place of Germanic and Latin cultures. Luxembourg can also claim to be the world¡¯s only Grand Duchy.
The country was ravaged during the second world war and was instrumental to the birth of the European Union in the years which followed. These days Luxembourg is famous for its finance; the country¡¯s business-friendly tax arrangements and position in the heart of Europe have paid off, making it the second richest country in the world in terms of GDP per capita.
But there is more to Luxembourg than banking. The country boasts a rich cultural heritage with influences from neighbouring countries as well as a booming high-tech sector. The capital, Luxembourg City, consistently ranks highly for quality of living and is the seat of several EU government institutions.
While the capital is home to many privately-run higher education institutions, the country¡¯s second city Esch-sur-Alzette is home to the public University of Luxembourg founded in 2004.
