World University Rankings 2022 by subject: engineering

The engineering subject table uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the?Times Higher Education?World University Rankings 2022, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across the following disciplines: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering and chemical engineering.

This year¡¯s table includes 1,188 universities, up from 1,098 last year.

The US is now home to all of the top four universities for engineering, following improvements for Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley. Harvard University tops the ranking for the second year.

The National University of Singapore features in the top 10 for the first time since 2019, after climbing two places to 10th, while China¡¯s Peking University drops out of this elite group, falling three places to 12th.

All of Australia¡¯s eight representatives in the top 100 are ranked higher than they were last year, with UNSW Sydney leading the nation at joint 46th?place.

The UK¡¯s top representatives have also improved overall: Cambridge and Imperial have each moved up one place; UCL, Manchester and Sheffield have climbed up within the top 100; and the University of Leeds has joined the top 100 at 84th?place.

The highest-ranked newcomer is France¡¯s Institut Polytechnique de Paris, which makes its debut in the 101-125 band.
