Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University was established in 2014 and has four technical colleges and seven technical institutes. These colleges and institutes are distributed across five locations: Al-Muthanna, Al-Najaf, Babylon, Diwaniya and Karbala.
Courses are offered across technical diploma, technical bachelor, master's and PhD levels. The university is officially accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the Republic of Iraq, as well as the Technical Education Authority.
The university¡¯s four technical colleges are: The Technical College of Health and Medicine, Technical College of Al-Mussaib, Technical College of Administrative and Management and the Technical College of Engineering. Its seven technical institutes are as follows: Technical Institute of Babylon, Technical Institute of Najaf, Technical Institute of Al-Mussaib, Technical Institute of Kufa, Technical Institute of Karbala, Technical Institute of AL¨CQadasya, Technical Institute of Semawa.
Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University offers courses of either two-year duration or four-year duration, and does not offer any online courses. Morning and evening courses are also offered by the university to cater for part-time students.
Sustainability is at the forefront of the agenda, encouraging the use and construction of renewable energy sources on campus. The university also puts research on its main agenda, aspiring to be the scientific reference for future generations.
One of the main aims of the university is to develop students who have the ability to meet the needs of the market, therefore aiming to help its national community in the process. The university also prioritises supporting innovation and excellence.
The Careers and Employment team are in place to support students on their route to employment through putting them in touch with employers, building skills or writing CV¡¯s.
