The Department of Portuguese of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor of Portuguese. The Department of Portuguese is an established and lively scholarly community. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Portuguese Studies concentrating on Portuguese with selected courses in Language, Linguistics, Literature, Culture, History and Translation. At the undergraduate level, the Department also teaches Portuguese language within the Faculty of Law and offers elective courses in Portuguese as a foreign language to students from all faculties of the University. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers two Master programmes (i) Portuguese Language and Intercultural Studies; (ii) Translation Studies (Portuguese-Chinese), as well as one PhD programme covering different topics of Portuguese Studies.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess at least a Master degree in Portuguese Linguistics, Portuguese Literary/Cultural Studies, or Teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language. Applicants should have extensive experience in teaching Portuguese to non-native speakers at university level. Previous experience in teaching initial and advanced levels Portuguese to native speakers of Chinese will be highly valued. Applicants must be native speakers of Portuguese or to show a near-native command of the language. Proficient command of English is mandatory.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2025.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP611,940 (approximately USD75,550) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Applicants should have: (a) a doctoral degree in educational psychology or a closely related field; (b) a solid program of research as shown in a track record of high-quality research related to educational psychology, as evidenced in publications in top SSCI/SCI indexed journals; (c) commitment and ability to successfully mentor graduate students; (d) a global reputation for excellence in research in educational psychology as well as an excellent national and international collaborative research profile in this field; (e) demonstrated ability to teach educational psychology-relevant courses within undergraduate and/or graduate preparation programs; and (f) quality experience in leading and developing educational psychology programmes at the undergraduate and/or the postgraduate level. Good knowledge of education systems of Macao and Greater China regions will be a plus.

About the Role

The Lecturer in Paramedicine will play a pivotal role in advancing teaching and learning within the Bachelor of Paramedicine programs at the College of Medicine and Public Health. The successful candidate will independently enhance the educational experience by integrating innovative teaching practices and technologies, ensuring the highest standards of excellence in both instruction and the scholarship of teaching.

About You

To be successful in this role you will exhibit:


	Clinical qualifications in paramedicine and current registration (or ability to obtain) with the Paramedicine Board of Australia (PBA)/AHPRA
	Experience with teaching and learning at a tertiary level and/or in an appropriate workplace setting, inclusive of simulation
	Good understanding of context appropriate assessment techniques and capacity to provide constructive feedback and evidence of a student-centred approach
	The ability to obtain and maintain an authority to practice as a paramedic with SA Ambulance Service or St John Ambulance NT
	Experience or capability to engage with students (and deliver teaching modules) via online learning platforms
	Successful and independent innovation in learning and teaching delivery or design, including use of e-learning technologies.


Level C

About the Role

The Senior Lecturer will take on a leadership role in fostering excellence in teaching and learning across the Paramedicine curriculum within the College of Medicine and Public Health. This position entails making substantial contributions to both teaching leadership and the scholarship of teaching, utilizing innovative practices and technologies to enhance educational outcomes. A deep understanding of contemporary paramedicine clinical practice will be essential. Additionally, the Senior Lecturer will play a vital role in serving the College and University, contributing to a collaborative and dynamic academic environment.

	Completion of a PhD and/or qualifications and equivalent clinical experience in paramedicine
	Current registration (or ability to obtain) with the Paramedicine Board of Australia (PBA)
