About the opportunity

The University of Sydney’s School of Physics is soliciting applications for two Researchers in Astrophotonics and Astronomical Instrumentation at Astralis-USyd.

This exciting role at Astralis-USyd (one of 3 nodes of Australia’s Astronomical Instrumentation Consortium, Astralis) is part of a major astrophotonics initiative launched from the University of Sydney as the lead institution in an international collaboration involving several observatory and university partners worldwide. We aim to revolutionise observational astronomy by producing next generation astronomical instruments founded on photonics technologies. Our group is an established world leader in astrophotonics, having pioneered instruments for photonic interferometry, nulling, wavefront sensing and spectroscopy at the world’s leading telescopes. The successful candidate will join our vibrant interdisciplinary team tackling some of the biggest challenges in observational astronomy by way of innovative technological solutions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	create innovative astronomical instruments and algorithms for groundbreaking astronomical science in high-contrast and high-angular-resolution imaging
	design and characterise novel instrument concepts based on astrophotonic technologies (including the photonic lantern and photonic integrated optics), by way of computer simulations, laboratory prototyping and on-sky testing
	develop novel data analysis and/or instrument control code, leveraging advances in machine learning and real-time control
	fabricate robust instrumentation or photonic components for use at 8m-class and future ELT-class observatories
	lead instrument development projects, including coordinating with scientists, engineers, observatories and other stakeholders to ensure optimum outcomes
	deliver outcomes in a timely way to meet milestones in the funded instrumentation projects.


About you

	a PhD or equivalent experience in physics, optics, photonics or astronomy, or an engineering background with a focus on?optical or photonic instrumentation
	demonstrated experience in astronomical instrumentation (whether hardware, software, or another related aspect), or in optical/photonic instrumentation development
	demonstrated skills in scientific / numerical programming and data analysis
	excellent collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
	a keen, self-motivated interest in exploring novel techniques and methods to solve problems.

Specialist / Laboratory Technician?position is available at the Research Program Unit at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki.

About the position

We are seeking a motivated applicants working on allergy mechanisms using in vitro and in vivo models. The employee will conduct research in a Finnish Research Council funded project focusing on the mechanisms of food allergies and their desensitization. The main task of the Specialist / Laboratory Technician will be to perform experiments in various study set-ups and analyze the obtained data. The position requires hands-on experience and basic knowledge on in vitro and in vivo studies. The position is initially for 10 months, with the possibility for extension through application for further funding.

Qualifications\

Ideal candidate has MSc (or PhD) degree in physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, or a degree in a similar field. Excellent team working and communication skills are required. Successful implementation of the tasks will require ability to work independently and as a member of a group. Strong candidate will have previous experience on cell cultures, immunological methods (e.g. flow cytometry and qPCR) and a FeLaSa certificate.

What we offer

The appointment is fixed term until the end of August 2025 but the position can be extended depending on the availability of funding. A 4-month trial period will be applied.

The salary is based on the job requirement scheme for specialist and support staff according to the salary system of the Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a personal salary component. In total, the starting gross salary is between 2800-3700 EUR per month.

The faculty Bursar of the MU Faculty of Medicine announces a?selection procedure for the position of Postdoc in?The Novel Mechanisms in Skeletogenesis?at the Department of Biology, MED MUNI

The project and responsibilities

The bone formation and skeletogenesis are complex processes many aspects of which are not understood. In order to produce treatments for developmental and aging bone disorders, we need to uncover molecular mechanisms that are involved. The selected applicant will lead a?project on mechanisms GRK2 kinase uses to produce and maintain healthy skeleton. This project will involve conditional mouse models, ex-vivo explants and cellular models; the approaches will comprise mainly morphological and histological analysis of the mouse skeletal tissues, establishment of primary cultures, and cell signaling experiments. Beyond the research tools and technology available in the lab and the hosting department, they will have access to the state-of-the-art instrumentation and services at the MUNI University campus core facilities. They will also participate in projects of other group members, including PhD and master students.

The Department of Chinese (https://www.LN.edu.hk/chi/) offers courses at both bachelor and postgraduate levels. The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme includes areas of classical, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese language and linguistics, comparative literature and literary theories, as well as media, news and creative writing. The programme emphasizes multi-perspective literary studies as well as creative writing and communicative skills.

The Department of Chinese will make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in digital humanities and premodern/modern Chinese literature. The Department particularly wishes to hire a high-powered researcher who has a solid track record in grant writing and publishing in respectable venues.

Responsibilities

The appointee will teach mainly in the areas of premodern and modern literature and culture, with prominent digital humanities component, and are also expected to contribute to the Department’s various research and teaching initiatives, including the enhancement of its two major journals: Prism: Theory and Modern Chinese Literature published by Duke University Press and the Lingnan Journal of Chinese Studies 嶺南學報 published by Shanghai guji chubanshe.

Requirements

Candidates should (1) have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline; (2) have professional training and competence in digital humanities; (3) have relevant teaching experience and have published high quality journal articles on digital Chinese literary research.
