Established in 2012, the Basrah University College of Science and Technology is a university college in the city of Basra in southern Iraq. It is one of about 22 private universities in Iraq.
It consists of five departments including information and communication engineering, business administration, pharmacy, medical analysis and English language.
Research areas include the 5G mobile network at the Basra Wireless Communication Research Lab, smart technology and cognitive radio. The university has also published research papers in the humanities and social sciences, microbiology and biotechnology and engineering in a number of different journals.
All classes are taught in Arabic. Programmes are full time and last for three years, with application deadlines in the autumn and spring.
Professor Muhammed Ali Al-Rudaini is the Dean of Basrah University College of Science and Technology.
The city of Basra is considered to be Iraq's main port. There are many areas of interest within the city including the old mosque of Basra, palm tree forests, Basra Sports City, the theme park called the Fun City of Basra, Akhora Park and many markets including the Indian Market.
