Beijing University of Technology was established in 1960. In 1981 the university formed its graduate school and four years later it started offering PhD degrees. Since 1996 the university has been a member of Project 211, an initiative by the Chinese Ministry of Education to raise the research standards of high-level universities.
The university is located in southeastern Beijing, the capital of China. Beijing is one of the few cities in the world that has served as the political headquarters and cultural centre of a country as big as China for as long as it has. One of the oldest cities in the world, Beijing has a rich history that spans across three millennia. It is also the world¡¯s most populous capital and home to over 21 million people.
The university¡¯s campus is fully equipped with a modern library and a National College Science Park. In 2007 a new athletic gym was built to host the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games badminton competitions.
There are an extensive number of courses available at both undergraduate and graduate level. The university has colleges that specialise in a range of fields including applied mathematical and physical science, computer science, and foreign languages.
Every academic year the university welcomes increasing numbers of students from around the world. There are currently over 1,000 international students at the university representing 75 countries between them. The university¡¯s College of International Education is committed to providing a multicultural learning environment. The college organises various cultural events and raises international awareness to ensure that the university is a diverse and accepting space.
