CUVAS was set up in the city of Bahawalpur, in Pakistan¡¯s Punjab province, in order to create a state-of-the-art education and research institution specialising in livestock, poultry, wildlife and related sectors.
It also aims to cater to the needs of industry, in order to ensure the production and export of safe and healthy livestock.
CUVAS has three faculties: biosciences; animal production and technology; and veterinary science. It is also home to the Cholistan Institute of Business Administration and to three animal hospitals. Its teaching and research centres are divided into six groups: dairy animals; beef animals; sheep and goats; camels; pets and wildlife; and poultry.
As well as a range of undergraduate degrees, CUVAS offers short courses, diplomas, master¡¯s degrees and a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine. Students have the opportunity to go on farm visits and to attend livestock shows.
Accommodation is in independent hostels close to the university. There are three hostels for male students and one for female students, all supervised by a warden¡¯s office. A state-of-the-art sports complex is within walking distance of the hostels.
