You will:

About the opportunity

The School of Medical Sciences is recognised as one of the leading centres for medical science education in the world. With over 100 years of excellence in education, we are proud to be training the next generation of medical scientists who will be leading members of the medical research community with an innovative integrated curriculum. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow - in Development Biology and Human Genetics to support Professor Mathias Francois and his research team. The primary function as biophysicist will be to develop and implement new solutions to push the boundary of the current analytical methods with a focus on gene regulation processes. The role will also support the Genome Imaging Center assisting users in the areas of imaging data acquisition and analysis.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	work under broad direction of Prof Francois and in tight collaboration with a computational biologist within the Center. The research officer is expected to utilise their training, technical expertise and scientific knowledge to resolve routine matters relevant to their key accountabilities as well as to develop their own research program
	exercise a high level diagnostic skills on single molecule localisation microscopy (SMLM) to suggest approaches to problem solving before consulting with the supervisor and identified experts in the field in order to assess the need around a particular analytical approach. They will have discretion to design new solutions that meet the requirements of the work being undertaken within the center
	conceptualise, design and implement analytical methods applied to quantitative molecular imaging (coding, statistics, visualisation).
	assist trainees in the center to use and analyse datasets.
	where appropriate train staff or external users ensuring their work is coordinated, planned and completed.
	actively contribute to the collaboration with external bodies to coordinate data repository
	write or contribute to manuscripts, reports and grant submissions,
	participate in lab and group meetings that are held on a regular basis,
	ensure Laboratory workbooks are maintained in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure,
	develop Standard Operating Procedures, Protocol and simple computational-level


About you


	PhD Biophysics
	Expertise with high and super resolution microscopy (dStorm, TIRF)
	Experienced with optical tweezers manipulation
	Experienced with microfluidics
	Scientific background in single molecule science
	Be familiar with gene regulation or genome biology
	Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
	Computer literate in standard research software, proficient with coding (Python, R, MatLab)
	Preferred experience with cell culture
	Good numeracy and literacy skills, including demonstrated ability to collate and manipulate statistical data for input into reports, manuscripts and grant submissions
	highly developed interpersonal skills with the proven ability to converse with and gain co-operation from diverse groups (students, staff, Non English-Speaking Backgrounds)

ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt is seeking to fill a university professorship (W3) for Forming Technology as soon as possible. The importance of forming technology is increas-ing in the context of the growing demand for resource-efficient products. New manufacturing technologies must enable both material-efficient and multifunctional components. This requires innovations that not only consider individual manufacturing technologies but also the interlocking of technologies in novel process chains. The increasing customisation of products also requires flexible and autonomous machine concepts that not only increase productivity but also counteract the shortage of skilled workers.

In addition to forming technology as a core technology, the professorship’s research should also include other manufacturing technologies in the sense of a comprehensive process chain approach. We are looking for a scien-tist with an international reputation and visibility who represents the field of forming technology in research and teaching.

YOUR TASKS

To strengthen our research activities, we are looking for a person with excellent scientific credentials in the field of forming technology and relevant experience in one or more of the following key research areas:


	Production process chains for multifunctional components (e.g. innovative sheet metal process chain)
	Technology development for products with material diversity (multi-material components)
	Automated and autonomous machine systems and components
	Machine development and machine design


We expect a willingness for national and international co-operation and interdisciplinary work both within the department and with other departments and research institutions.

The professorship should also represent the field of forming technology in teaching and also participate in overar-ching courses in the department.

YOUR PROFILE

A degree in engineering or natural sciences followed by a qualified doctorate, internationally recognised research achievements, habilitation or equivalent, experience in acquiring third-party funding, didactic and pedagogical aptitude, leadership experience and a willingness to participate in academic self-administration are required. Several years of practical experience in industry in the fields of manufacturing technologies and production machinery are considered highly advantageous.

As part of the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main metropolitan region, TU Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterised by an international outlook. A core element of this is a cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and – after three years at the latest – good German language skills are expected.

The position includes a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “W-Besoldung”, and is subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. Fur-ther requirements for employment are based on § 67 and § 68 HessHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
