Dnipro University of Technology was founded in 1899 as a mining institute, in 1993 becoming the State Mining Academy of Ukraine. In 2017, the reference to mining was dropped, and the institution became the National Technical University, Dniprovska Polytechnic.
The mining legacy remains, however: one of the university¡¯s nine institutes is the Institute of Nature Management, with departments including open-pit mining and mining engineering and education (also the department of military training.)
The university also owns a six-hectare area of forest, where mining students combine geodetic and geophysical practice with sports and leisure activities.
The university¡¯s other eight institutes are: the institute of humanities and social sciences; the institute of economics; the institute of electric power engineering; the interdisciplinary institute of continuing education; the educational and scientific institute of public administration; the medical engineering faculty; the faculty of architecture, construction and land management; and the faculty of natural sciences and technologies.
The university also has six centres of international cooperation, including the Ukrainian-American linguistic centre, the Ukrainian-German cultural centre and the Ukrainian-Japanese centre.
An active women¡¯s council organises themed evenings, speaker events, concerts, exhibitions and fairs.
