Duhok Polytechnic University is one of three polytechnic universities in Iraq.
It is the oldest academic institution in Duhok, founded in 1988 as the Duhok Technical Institute. It expanded with the addition of branches at Zakho in 2002, Amedi in 2004 and Shekhan in 2007 before being raised to university status in 2012. Since then it has opened a new campus in Shingal in 2014.
Defined as a collegiate research institution, students are divided between technical institutes, which offer two-year courses, and colleges, which provide four-year degree options.
The technical institutes are based at Duhok, in the university’s administrative centre, and at Zakho, Amedi, Shehkan and Shingal. There are two colleges for health and engineering.
Two institutes and two colleges were spun off with the formation of the Akre University of Applied Science in 2023.
