Fasa University was first established in 2006 in the former bureau of agricultural affairs. The Iranian public research university is located in Fasa, which is approximately 150km from Shiraz (the capital of the Fars province). There are over 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students and over 130 members of faculty and staff.
Located in the west side of the city, the campus comprises 23,750 kilometres squared, with faculty buildings, a library, administrative buildings and housing for women, men and professors. It has various auxiliary research facilities such as a research greenhouse and 31 laboratories, with its most recent addition, added in 2017, the university gained 22 faculty members¡¯ room and eight laboratories.

The Fars Province is one of Iran¡¯s 31 provinces and known as the cultural capital of the country. It spreads across 122,400 kilometres square of land, with a population of 4.6 million, of which 67.6 per cent were registered as urban dwellers, 32.1 per cent villagers and 0.3 per cent nomadic tribes.
The province of Fars includes many protected wildlife zones. Agriculture is of great importance in Fars. The major products include cereal (wheat and barley), citrus fruits, dates, sugar beets and cotton.
The main group in the province are Persians (including Larestani people and the Basseri), while Qashqai, Lurs, Kurds, Arabs, Georgians, and Circassians constitute minorities.
Shiraz Airport is the main international airport of the province and the second in the country.
